Our overall rating:
It’s easy to think of the executive car market in two halves: mainstream models from the likes of Ford and Vauxhall on the one hand, and premium models such as those made by BMW and Mercedes-Benz on the other. There is, however, another option that has carved out its own little niche in-between: the Volkswagen Passat.
With its classily appointed interior, focus on comfort over handling and refined engines, it’s a tempting choice for those who are all too familiar with the motorway. Just remember that, unlike the Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport hatchbacks, the Passat is a less practical four-door saloon, just like the posher BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class.
If the Passat sounds like your cup of tea, read on for driving impressions, what it’s like inside and how much it’ll cost you. And if you fancy a Passat, visit our new car deals page, where you could grab yourself a bargain.
