2018 Volvo XC40 T4 verdict

After the T3 left us cold and the T5 was just a bit too hot, could the Volvo XC40 T4 be the Goldilocks petrol version we’ve been waiting for?...

2018 Volvo XC40 T4 verdict

If you’re set on petrol power for your XC40, the T4 is certainly worth considering. Although it’s a fair bit pricier than the T3, it’s smoother, feels far punchier and isn’t massively thirstier in the real world. It may be barely any more efficient than the T5, but it should be a fair bit cheaper to insure.

Even so, we’d still suggest strongly that you consider the D4 diesel. With a beefier mid-range and better fuel economy, it feels a much better fit for this family SUV.
